Artist Statement:

Within literature, there are three factors at play: Character emotions, reader emotions and the far more obscure author emotions. As one reads a novel, an interactive experience occurs, a conversation between the reader and the author. This concept was of a great interest to me as I created this series. It was my hope to portray not necessarily a direct scene from a chosen book, instead to illustrate certain emotions experienced within the novel itself.

These images were staged, a moment between others, a pause between the before and after of an event.

Books are a place for us to escape within, and it is my thought, that photographs may serve the same purpose. As one views a photograph, I like to imagine that this moment as well is a conversation between artist and viewer.

I created this project because I never really got to see changing leaves due to a childhood in areas with two seasons, and I find myself mesmorized by the color changes every fall.

Artist Statement:
A few years ago I was browsing in a second hand bookstore and came across a thin, over sized book and the photo on the cover caught my eye. It was titled, "From my Window," and was filled with polaroids from Andre Kertesz's final series. I found these small images of light through glass, far away cityscapes and treasured objects to be lovely with subtle colors. To this day I remember that book and I decided to make a project of my own; one that could evoke impressions that it's viewer might retain as well.
This project is about memories. Not important memories such as a special event or pivotal points in life, but our secondary, hidden memories; the ones that return when we hear a specific sound or smell a certain scent. Such as how trees looked on a certain lovely afternoon, or how it felt to be held that one moment in a trying time. How your father's cologne smelled on Sundays, or how frost felt on small bare hands.
The memories in these photographs are not necessarily my own, but hopefully a suggestion of what anyone might recall in a spontaneous instant. The objects within the bowls are also meant to be symbolic of memories. Not our specific treasured objects, but perhaps the ones that we may have set right beside them.
I have used fishbowls with fish inside them as a visual for how foggy or clear our memories might be. Coming back in a sharp quick moment or subtly with our minds grabbing after them, trying to recall more than we now remember.
Perhaps these are not thoughts that are shared by all, but these simply come back to a recollection of my own as a young woman, standing in a dusty bookstore trying to interpret the memories of another, deceased man.

Here are some of my recent Illustrative and Photo journalistic endeavors.

Dr. Raul Kuddus. Due to a changed deadline, his photo did not get to run. He was about to publish a book.

For an article about plane travel, and traveling in general. This article did not run, as the writer who pitched the idea never wrote it.

This was for an article inviting students to join French Club.

This one was for a piece on how APX had recieved an "F" from the BBB.

I took a photo of the Free Mason's temple for an article regarding the Free Mason's response to Dan Brown's new book.

These were for UVU's Aviation Flight Club. First rule of Flight club, don't talk about Flight Club.

For an article about cows that are mistreated on large dairy farms...

These were a couple of documentary filmmakers whose film about Clean Flix had made it into the Toronto Film Festival.
There are many, many more I intend to post, but I will not tonight.

My husband was finally able to take me flying, so we decided to go to Heber through the Canyon. It was pretty exciting, and the weather was perfect- not much turbulence at all.

this is the gps in the plane while we were going back into the canyon. Red and yellow signifies close terrain. I thought we were cutting it really close, but it wasn't anything to really worry about after all.

It was so much fun. I can't wait to go again

A Trip to Cascade Springs

There was a freak snow storm a couple days ago, and I couldn't resist taking some photos. These were shot around 1 am. I just love how bright it gets when it snows. my dog came along for the fun

we wandered over to the nearby orchard, I'm not sure if you can tell, but it was still really coming down.
I just thought it was crazy. Today it was bright and sunny.

For this assignment, I had to depict, in any context of my choosing, a popular mythical figure or myth. I chose Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt and Animals. I put a couple dfferent color treatments here: I like them both. My poor models had to stand in the freezing cold for this one, but still did an exceptional job.

The Mountain Goats

I was lucky enough to get to see The Mountain Goats live in concert. It was breathtaking. I was able to smuggle in my SLR without anyone giving me any trouble so that also made me happy.

Arizona

I recently took a trip down to Arizona and enjoyed spending a week visiting a friend of mine.

I tried my hand at photographing landscape, just for fun.

I also got to go to this amazing zoo, out in the middle of nowhere, called Out of Africa. It was safari style based, and I felt fortunate to have the opportunity to go.

Analysis of the Movie "Pleasantville" in relation to the Modern and Post Modern movement.

Color was a fundamental instrument in the movie "Pleasantville". Not only was it used to define a character, but was also a demonstration of society, art and cultural movements back from the 1950's through present day.
Pleasantville was an example of the ideal 1950's society. Everything needed to be in a uniform and pleasant manner. There was a certain standard for everything, from how one dressed to how the family structure was maintained. There were certain expectations that stood for every male- to succeed in life and become the breadwinner- and females- to learn as much as possible, only to spend the rest of your life, once married, serving your family from your house. Concerns were localized, and one was unaware of global current events.
In the movie, color was used to emphasize advancements in music, literature, and an openness to dialogue about relationships. It emphasized a change in fashion and a progression of art, and literally showed us examples of Cezanne, Matisse and Picasso. As the characters in the movies gained knowledge, they also gained an acceptance and understanding of this art. However, while members of the little town started to veer away from normalcy to appreciate good, those who remained ignorant polarized to something else that is very present in every unstandardized society, anger and violence.
This can be related to the Post Modernist movement's retaliatory actions toward the Modernists. The Modernists had a standard. There was one kind of ideal citizen, lifestyle, nation, capitalism, ideology and future. And as the Modernism rhetoric progressed, more and more people retaliated against the modernism that excluded them. Modernists works made no reference to anything in another's experience, it was only internally related to the artist himself. Post Modernists went as far away from this stance as possible, and created art that did not relate to the artist, but contained an invitation for a viewer to be a part of it. The audience was vital to make the work complete. It involved the artist in the most minor amount in all the art movements of our history.
The movie "Pleasantville" showed the transformation of a society with a non-changeist attitude to a town that, like the Post Modernists, began to explore important philosophical principles. They learned that self expression and imperfection led to a new, exciting sort of beauty. All these realizations were flagged with the use of color contrasted with shades of gray.
